The Soulmate Equation
The story revolves around a dating company that matches a busy single mom, Jessica Davis, with the company’s founder, Dr. River Peña. However, the question remains whether their real-life relationship can live up to their statistically determined compatibility.
Jessica Davis is a single mom who is focused on raising her daughter, Juno, with the help of her grandparents. She has a full plate with her job in statistics, assisting Juno with school projects, and constantly bailing out her troublesome mother. Dating is the last thing on her mind. However, everything changes when she and her romance-novelist best friend, Fizzy, strike up a conversation with a grumpy regular at a coffee shop.
What is Soulmate Equation About?
Little do they know that this regular, known as Americano, is actually Dr. River Peña, the founder of Genetic Ally, a new matchmaking company that uses DNA to pair individuals. Against her better judgment, Jessica decides to give the company a try after submitting a DNA sample and discovering she has a 98% compatibility with River, a man she can’t stand.
In need of money due to losing a client and her mother’s constant financial troubles, Jessica reluctantly agrees to date River as part of Genetic Ally’s offer. As she gets to know the real River, she starts to question whether the data might be onto something.
The authors, known for their humorous and charming rom-coms such as The Honey-Don’t List (2020), not only introduce an intriguing and unique premise but also execute it flawlessly. Jessica is a sympathetic protagonist, and it’s easily and clearly understandable why she would be skeptical of Genetic Ally’s promises while still being willing to give it a chance.
Synopsis of The Soulmate Equation:
Jess Davis, a single mom with a knack for data and statistics, has sworn off dating due to past disappointments. Raised by her grandparents, who play a significant role in raising her seven-year-old daughter, Juno, Jess finds it challenging to let anyone new into her life. However, everything changes when she learns about Genetic Ally, a popular DNA-based matchmaking company that promises to revolutionize the dating world.
Being someone who understands the reliability of numbers, Jess decides to take a compatibility test. To her surprise, the test reveals an unprecedented 98% compatibility with the founder of Genetic Ally, Dr. River Peña.
Despite her strong aversion to him, Genetic Ally makes an offer she can’t refuse: Get to know River, and they will pay her. As Jess delves deeper into getting to know River, she begins to question her initial assumptions about him and the science behind soulmates. This realization takes her on an unexpected journey of love and self-discovery.
The Soulmate Equation by Christina Lauren
The Soulmate Equation by Christina Lauren is a standout book that showcases the duo’s talent for crafting compelling romances. With a mix of beloved tropes, this novel is sure to captivate romance readers. The story features a hate-to-love dynamic, reminiscent of Pride and Prejudice, as Jess overhears River referring to her as “average.” To add to the intrigue, River and Jess engage in a fauxmance orchestrated by his company to promote his DNA-matchmaking app to investors and the press.
In true rom com fashion, Jess has a delightful best friend named Felicity, who is a romance novelist and constantly encourages Jess to put herself out there. Felicity’s vibrant personality and penchant for incorporating real-life experiences into her books make her a memorable character. Furthermore, The Soulmate Equation delves into the concept of DNA-based matchmaking, prompting discussions about what truly makes a compatible match and a successful relationship.
It champions romance and challenges societal dismissals of love and its significance in one’s personal and professional life.
